Artificial intelligence is a strategic technology that leads a new round of technological revolution, industrial transformation, and social development. It is having a significant and far-reaching impact on human life, economic development, and social progress. Our school is one of the earliest institutions in China to engage in the cultivation and scientific research of artificial intelligence talents, and is affiliated with the Chinese Association of Artificial Intelligence. Since the late 1970s, BUPT has been developing digital voice telephone dialing systems and postal code recognition systems, pioneering the application of human intelligence in the industry. With the systematic research on artificial intelligence theory, the research direction has gradually extended to various fields of artificial intelligence, and multiple research achievements have gained high reputation both domestically and internationally. The discipline of artificial intelligence is oriented towards national strategic needs, cultivates high-level professional talents, conducts cutting-edge scientific research, and is committed to theoretical innovation and technological breakthroughs.
This major is a self-established second level discipline, belonging to Information and Communication Engineering, one of the First-class universities and disciplines of the world at BUPT. It has many national level teaching, research, and international cooperation bases, and many important research platforms for national key, major projects, and international cooperation projects. It maintains extensive and in-depth cooperative relationships with well-known domestic and foreign enterprises in multiple industries.
The research directions are as follows:
1. Intelligent communication and intelligent information processing
Specifically, it includes: B5G/6G intelligent communication network, artificial intelligence and high-performance computing, Internet of Things, blockchain, multi domain collaboration theory and technology of intelligent networked systems, metaverse information synesthesia fusion theory and technology, etc.
2. Web search and artificial intelligence
Specifically, it includes natural language processing, computer vision, and speech recognition.
3. Intelligent Data Science and Technology
Specifically, it includes: network intelligent perception and autonomous decision-making, image recognition and intelligent applications, video understanding and content generation, etc.
4. Computer vision and machine learning
Specifically, it includes: multimodal intelligent computing, medical big data and trusted computing, cultural brain and cultural computing, intellectual property protection and generative models, etc.The academic degree master's program lasts for 3 years, and the academic degree doctoral program for 4 years. Full-time study is required for these both degree programs.
