To promote academic exchange and cultivate students' professional interests, the School of Artificial Intelligence invited Professor Yi Ma from the School of Computing and Data Science at the University of Hong Kong to deliver an academic lecture titled "Pursuing the Nature of Intelligence" on the morning of March 14. The lecture was hosted by Associate Professor Chunguang Li from the School of Artificial Intelligence.
Commencing his presentation with a unique perspective on the origin and evolution of life, Professor Yi Ma inspired the audience to contemplate the generation and iterative mechanisms of intelligence. He guided participants through landmark explorations of machine intelligence by pioneering AI researchers, addressing fundamental questions such as "What is intelligence?" and "How do we attain intelligence?" Subsequently, Professor Yi Ma elucidated a principled mathematical framework for achieving intelligence, interpreting deep learning practices through the lens of data compression encoding and decoding. He provided insightful perspectives on the true nature of recent advancements in AI technology and outlined future trajectories for artificial intelligence development. Following the lecture, Professor Ma engaged in in-depth discussions with faculty and students regarding the essence of intelligence and effective approaches to academic research.
Featuring substantial content, this lecture not only deepened participants' understanding of intelligence's fundamental nature but also ignited strong interest and exploratory enthusiasm in the field. Moving forward, the School of Artificial Intelligence will continue hosting the forum series, maintaining its commitment to enriching academic culture and providing an exceptional platform for academic exchange.
