Center for Intelligence Science and Technology (CIST) was established in 1999. It is a member unit of the Engineering Research Center of Information Networks, Ministry of Education and an affiliated unit of the Natural Language Understanding Committee of Chinese Association for Artificial Intelligence (CAAI), China. It is a supporting unit for undergraduate majors in Intelligence Science and Technology (IST) and Artificial Intelligence (AI), as well as master's and doctoral authorization points in IST. It constructs the second level discipline of IST, which belongs to the "Double First Class" disciplines of Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications (BUPT).
There are5 professors/research fellows, 14 associate professors/associate research fellows, and 4 lecturers inCIST currently, including Beijing Science and Technology New Star and high-level innovation and entrepreneurship talents in Beijing.
Focusing on the national strategy ofAI and the intelligence needs of various industries, CIST explores the basic theoriesand develops cutting-edge technologies and effective applications ofAI in society, enterprises, and people's daily lives.CIST is mainly devoted totheoretical research and technological development in areas such asAI basic theories, natural language processing and understanding, speech information processing, computer vision, multimodal cognitive computing, large model theory and technology, human-machine collaboration and game decision-making. The main content is summarized as follows:
In terms ofAIbasic theories, research is conducted on the basic concepts and theories ofAIfrom multiple aspects such as information, knowledge, and intelligence, including theories and methods of information measurement and acquisition, theories and methods of knowledge representation and acquisition, and theories and methods of intelligence generation and decision-making.
In terms of speech and naturallanguage processing and understanding,CIST works on the core technologies of natural language processing, especially Chinese information processing, and studies machine learning, deep learning, large language models, and their applications in natural language processing, understanding, and generation. It develops key technologies and application systems for human-machine dialogue, information retrieval, information extraction, knowledge graph, automatic summarization, speech synthesis, and sentiment analysis.
In the field of multimodal cognitive computing,CISTresearches the key technologies of visual information understanding, and studies the deep analysis, correlation, and inference techniques of multimodal information such as visual (image, video) and speech language. It also researches on key technologies and application systems for cross modal information retrieval and intelligent human-machine voice interaction.
CISTmembers have received a series of scientific research awards in recent years, including the first prize of the Invention Achievement Award of the Chinese Invention Society. They have undertaken a large number of scientific research projects, including key research and development programs of the Ministry of Science and Technology, key projects of the National Natural Science Foundation and the Social Science Foundation, and major research programs of the National Natural Science Foundation. They have published over 400 high-level academic papers at top internationalAI conferences such as NeuroIPS and IJCAI.
