From December 17 to 20, 2021, the 5th International Symposium on Image Computing and Digital Medicine (ISICDM 2021) was successfully held in Guilin, Guangxi, combining both online and offline formats. The conference was jointly hosted by Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications, Guilin University of Electronic Technology, and Guilin Medical University. Professor Linda Petzold, a member of both the National Academy of Sciences and the National Academy of Engineering of the United States, served as the honorary chair. Professor Xu Kun, Vice President of Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications, and others served as conference chairs, while Professor Guo Jun from the School of Artificial Intelligence and others served as academic committee chairs, and Professor Yang Huihua and others served as program committee chairs.

 The theme of this conference was "Promoting Deep Integration of Science, Engineering, and Medicine." The conference invited over 130 experts and scholars from countries including China, the United States, Germany, the United Kingdom, and Australia. They presented reports, discussions, and exchanges on seven themes: "Image Computing and Artificial Intelligence," "Radiomics and Artificial Intelligence," "Intersection of Medicine and Engineering," "Mathematical Models and Algorithms for Image Computing," and more. Additionally, two challenge competitions were held. The conference received 37 paper submissions. After rigorous review, 4 papers were accepted for oral presentations, and 24 papers were selected for poster presentations. These were published by IEEE and all were presented and discussed during the conference. The offline attendance was 50 participants, while the online attendance exceeded 190,000 views.
